Home-Start Bury was founded in 1999 as an independent charity by parents and practitioners who wanted to provide support for parents during the formative years of a child's life. We are looking to strengthen our active board of trustees

The role

Home-Start Bury offers support in families own homes on a weekly basis meaning that children, parents and the volunteers can build up a strong and trusting relationship, and can adapt to the changing pressures of family life.

We are looking to add to our very active board of trustees. Our board currently consists of a qualified social worker, retired businessman, HR consultant, retired Health Visitor and children's librarian specialist. 

With cuts to local authority budgets, a previous primary source of funding, our main challenge currently is raising funds elsewhere. Longer term we are ambitious for the charity to expand both our staff of 4 and volunteer base of 5o to be able to support more families in the Bury borough.

Person description

Someone with legal skills or media/marketing skills would really add to the skill set of the board but all experience will be considered.

All our staff, volunteers and trustees are passionate about Hone Start Bury. We all find it so very rewarding when we hear our success stories in supporting families in their own homes in difficult times for them and how we helped turn their lives around.

Time commitment

Either in or out of office hours

We have about 6 meetings a year and try to keep them to between an hour and 90 minutes. They are held at our offices in Bury.
