Opportunity description

We employ teenage parents to deliver peer education in schools presenting the realities of early parenthood and dangers of social media, domestic abuse & grooming. We need a motivated volunteer help run a social media campaign.

The role

We have lots of ideas plus a great group of young people who are keen to become involved in a social media campaign.  However, they need focus and structure to make our campaign successful.  They understand the power of social media but it needs channelling into a cohesive plan.  With the right volunteer behind them the teenage parents could learn transferable skills for employment - project planning, diligence and communications.

They need to learn the boundaries of saying things on social media as our reputation can't be compromised but at the same time, they need encouragement and plenty of nagging behind them to get things done.

We aim to help these young people into education and employment and you can help to inspire them so that they reach their potential and become far less reliant on the State for support. Teenage mothers cost the country umpteen millions in taxes in benefits and NHS support.

Ok, so your taxes may not be heavily reduced by this volunteering opportunity but it could make a difference through generations as the young parents become positive working models for their children and are lifted out of poverty. The outcomes for the charity would be to raise our profile and attract funding from corporates so that we can do so much more than we are already achieving.

We need someone who can commit to this project even if it's through lots of phone calls and some visits.

Required skills

  • Social media marketing
  • Project management
  • Volunteer management

Person description

You need to be able to give these young people strong boundaries and support simultaneously - this is the real world of work so they need to meet deadlines.

You should have a proven track record on leading social media campaigns and know more than the young people (they do know a lot). You don't need to be fabulously creative as they have ideas but it would help.

You should have experience as a project manager and the ability to develop the project so that at some point you can walk away and see that a great job has been done.

You want their commitment to the project so you need to have commitment to seeing it through.

What impact the opportunity will have

Teenage mothers cost the country umpteen millions in taxes in benefits and NHS support.  Ok, so your taxes may not be heavily reduced by this volunteering opportunity but it could make a difference through generations as the young parents become positive working models for their children and are lifted out of poverty.

The outcomes for the charity would be to raise our profile and attract funding from corporates so that we can do so much more than we are already achieving.  Our current campaign is not good so you will see an enormous impact that will have a lasting legacy for future young parents to be a part of.

What’s in it for the volunteer?

You will work with an interesting group of young people who have mostly disengaged from education and have little work experience.  They all have massive potential and gradually your perceptions will be challenged especially those of you who read the rubbish in the media about young parents and benefits scroungers.  You will see a project through from the beginning and we will all be immensely grateful to you that someone with your expertise is taking this off our plate.  You will gain an unforgettable experience of the Third Sector. We are located in a vibrant part of London that is changing rapidly and if you help us, we'll take you out for a nice lunch.

Time commitment

Either in or out of office hours

It is an open-ended project but a reasonable commitment of at least 6 months is required. Several visits and regular communication.
