Person description

We are seeking dynamic, committed and energetic individuals to join our Board and lead the organisation through a period of ambitious growth, building our supporter base and expanding awareness and fund-raising activity across the UK so that we can do more to improve the lives of women and girls throughout the world.

We are looking for strong leaders who can bring a range of skills and experience to the Board, including:

  • Experience of building successful organisations, particularly in a period of change and growth
  • Familiarity with, and involvement in, successful fundraising initiatives through Trustee access to a wide reaching network
  • An ability to speak out for the cause of UN Women across a variety of public and private platforms
  • A track record demonstrating an ability to support a Board as it addresses future strategy, development of the organisation and the highest standards of governance

We are interested in Trustees from a variety of sectors so that we can ensure there is Board representation from each of our key stakeholder communities including the charity sector, private sector, public sector, NGO’s and higher education institutions.

In order to reflect the communities that we serve, we particularly wish to encourage male applicants and candidates of diverse backgrounds.

Applicants should be prepared to give a minimum of the equivalent of 3 days a month and expect to be an active member of one of the Boards sub-committees as well as an active participant on the Board itself. The Board meets 4 times a year in London with sub committees meeting (virtually) monthly.

What impact the opportunity will have

Balancing and strengthening the skill sets of the Board is essential to enable us to achieve our mission of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls around the world. Every Trustee makes a significant difference to our achievements - a small, relatively new but ambitious charity - the successful applicant will enable the charity to engage a broader audience in taking real action to achieve gender equality in their lifetime and empower women and girls around the world.

What’s in it for the volunteer?

This role provides a real opportunity to make an impact at a strategic level - influencing global policy; at a national level - working with UK government as well as with UK businesses; and a local level - ensuring that our programmes of work make a difference to women and girls on the ground around the world. The role also provides the opportunity to work with a Board that is passionate, committed and courageous in pursuing their goals.
