Opportunity description

An opportunity has opened up within a well established youth charity for a new trustee in the role of treasurer.

The role

Off The Record is a well-established and respected support agency for children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. We work in the London Boroughs of Croydon, Sutton and Merton.

We are a friendly and professional organisation which believes passionately in the right of  vulnerable young people to have access to talking therapies and support.

We are currently looking for a new Trustee who would act as the new Treasurer for the Charity.  This is a voluntary position.  You would need to be appropriately qualified and experienced.

Your main duties would include:

  1. Undertaking monthly bank reconciliations

  2. Presentation of quarterly management accounts (to be prepared by the Finance Officer)

  3. Attendance at Trustee Board meetings (quarterly on Saturdays)

  4. Attendance at Finance Committee meetings (Quarterly via teleconference)

Person description

In addition to the statutory duties each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Trustee Board to reach sound decisions.  These may include:

 

  • To attend as many Trustee Board Meetings as possible
  • Scrutinising Trustee Board papers
  • Leading discussions
  • Focusing on key issues
  • Providing guidance on new initiatives
  • Other issues in which the trustee has special expertise

You may be a qualified accountant with demonstrated commercial awareness and knowledge, with knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes.

What impact the opportunity will have

This role will play a key part in maintaining financial checks and balances for the charity.

The Treasurer will play a significant part alongside the Charities Finance Officer who does all the day-to-day financial administration, including other financial reports, dealing with invoicing and expenditure; liaising with funders is carried out by the Finance Officer and Agency Director.

Time commitment

Mostly outside office hours

1/2 a day or 1 evening a month for monthly bank reconciliations. Quarterly Finance Committee (telecon) and quarterly trustee meetings (Saturdays).
