The Counselling Foundation

Objectives

The Counselling Foundation is a leading charity providing low cost ongoing and short term counselling and counsellor training in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire to improve mental health of our communities.

We’re here to help those experiencing emotional distress to enhance their wellbeing, whilst raising the awareness and advance the understanding of mental health. Our charitable mission makes sure that people on low incomes have access to affordable open ended counselling which isn’t available elsewhere in the two counties. Our counsellor training service promotes personal development and growth whilst supporting communities through the provision of further qualified counsellors providing a talking therapy.

The Counselling Foundation’s management team mostly have a clinical background or have been affected indirectly from mental health, so we are unique in having people working and running our organisation who understand counselling and are passionate about this work.

Within our team of 150 are many of our former trainees and volunteers who enjoy giving us their time – we enable people to help themselves and others and that’s why we’re here.

Activities

We deliver over 10,000 low cost counselling sessions across 8 centres and the county of Herts and Beds. This enables people to pay between £10 - £40 for counselling, in comparison to private therapy rates which start from £35.

We have over 150 students in training at any time, we offer a certificate and diploma in psychodynamic counselling, and we are expanding this offering to East Herts.

We deliver contracts for short term counselling across Herts, on behalf of the NHS. This delivery represents over 10,000 sessions a year. We are looking to build on the success of this contract and  expand our work with the joint NHS and Herts County Council commissioning team.
