Social Action for Health

Objectives

At Social Action for Health we are passionate to unlock the potential in people because communities hold the power to their own health and wellbeing - and a healthier world.

We have a vision for a world where health inequalities no longer exist and everyone can live long healthy and fulfilling lives.

Working alongside diverse communities we empower people and communities to live healthier lives.

How we work

Our way of working is to build capacity in people and communities – particularly those most affected by health inequalities. We are expert at engaging communities and then facilitating ways that people can develop their own solutions, sharing their expertise and seeing the world and opportunities in a different way.
We all have strengths to give to create a healthier world, at Social Action for Health we bring people together to empower and support each other. We believe in leading by example.

Where we work

We are based in Hackney but operate across London supporting local people to lead in their communities and engage and facilitate in their mother tongue. We are currently working in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Islington, Greenwich and Ealing.

Activities

We focus our work in three key areas:

Community partners:  We provide consortium leadership, technical support, access to impact measurement through Salesforce, office space, contract management, HR and finance processing services, capacity building, risk and quality management and consultancy. We support small and new volunteer and grass roots led organisations as well as local branches of larger national bodies.

Peoples health: We deliver self-management, peer support and patient leadership projects. We also develop change agent, social action approaches that build community capacity for campaigning.

Community research:  We develop capacity, practices and delivery of action learning and asset based approaches to community development. We ensure community led research and build strategic relationships with academic institutions to be a grass roots partner. We always ask ‘will this research leave the community stronger and more able to look after its own health and wellbeing – and contribute to reducing health inequalities?’.
