Taunton East Development Trust

Objectives

The Trust will work together with others to encourage pride in the community. It will provide opportunities to develop self-esteem, confidence and skills through information, training, motivation and enterprise. The Trust works to promote general charitable purposes for the benefit of the community of Taunton East (the Lane, Lambrook and Halcon Estates) and to provide relief from financial hardship and social and/or economic disadvantage and to advance the education of its residents of all ages; and in particular to provide opportunities for these residents to participate fully in the life of their community in ways which address and alleviate social and economic disadvantage. The trust provides a Link Centre - a drop-in centre for local residents.

Activities

TEDT works to promote social inclusion, economic regeneration and improved health and wellbieng in areas of social and economic deprivation (within the Lane, Lambrook and Halcon Estates). The Trusts aims and objectives include the relief of poverty, the relief of unemployment including assistance to find employment, the advancement of education, training or retraining, particularly among unemployed people, and providing unemployed people with work experience and voluntereing opportunites to improve self-esteem and confidence. The Trust also provides a range of recreational and wellbeing experience and opportunties for the estates. The Trust provides a broad range of support services, social activities and advice and signposting for the Taunton East area (the most deprived ward in Taunton Deane and in the top 5% nationally).
